In the spring of 2025, I had the privilege of traveling to Nepal with a remarkable group of women—mature in age, but forever young in spirit. We were joined by a young man whose heart and energy matched ours perfectly. To call this a “trip of a lifetime” would be an understatement.
From the moment we arrived after a long 36-hour journey, we were embraced with overwhelming kindness by our hosts, Lacchu and Manisha of Moon Himalaya Adventure Pvt. Ltd. They greeted us at the Kathmandu airport with marigold garlands and traditional khatas—symbols of welcome, purity, and respect. Their warmth and sincerity were instantly evident, and it only deepened throughout the trip.
On our second day, Manisha guided us through a captivating tour of Kathmandu, where we explored stunning cultural sites including Swoyambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple), Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa and Durbar Square.
Day three brought us to Phaplu. Though the roads were rough and the journey long, our experienced driver and his assistant handled every challenge the rugged Nepali terrain threw at us with calm professionalism.
The accommodations—tea houses, lodges, and local homes—offered authentic experiences reflective of the regions we traveled through. Immersed in the culture, we cherished every single moment.
Trekking from Phaplu to Pikey Peak was emotionally profound. At any given time, I felt excitement, fear, joy, disbelief, pride, humility, love, and deep camaraderie. Our guides—Lacchu, Ram, Dorje, and Pema—were beyond extraordinary. Their patience, compassion, and attentiveness kept us going when we felt tired, unwell, or emotionally overwhelmed. At times, when we couldn’t carry ourselves, they did.
At the lodges, our chef Nema and his team ensured we were nourished with delicious, hearty meals that kept us energized for the challenging treks ahead. The food was always exactly what we needed—simple, nourishing, and prepared with care.
Our porters were equally incredible. After hauling our duffel bags to the next destination, some would return to meet us along the trail, ready to assist if we needed help or encouragement. Their support was quiet but unwavering.
After our Pikey Peak descent, we spent four unforgettable days visiting villages like Jhapre, Gorakhani, and Shishalola. We engaged with local communities, participated in school sponsorship activities, played, sang, and danced with children, and even joined a Nepali dance party under the stars. One village gave us a heartfelt sendoff that I’ll never forget. My heart was overflowing.
From UNESCO heritage tours to breathtaking mountain ascents and heartfelt cultural exchanges, the memories I gathered on this trip are etched into my soul. Thanks to Moon Himalaya, I was able to experience places and emotions I never imagined possible.
I received 52 khatas on this trip—each one a symbol of welcome, goodwill, or farewell. They are more than fabric; they are tangible reminders of love, community, and connection. Treasured keepsakes for life.
Moon Himalaya Adventure isn’t just a tour company. They don’t simply take you from point A to point B. They offer what you want and also what you didn’t know you needed. They wrap you in care, introduce you to real Nepali life, and immerse you in something truly extraordinary. Their attention to detail, warmth, and authenticity offer a kind of “magic” that no itinerary can ever fully describe.
Thank you, Lacchu, Manisha and team for the journey, the memories, and the love. You are forever in my heart.
