Our destination for today is the Theptenchholing Gumba/Monastery. One of the most sacred sites for Sherpas is the monastery of Thupten Chöling. There are around four hundred monks and nuns living here. In the 1960s, Tibetan Buddhist monks known as "His Holiness Trulshig Rinpoche" escaped from Tibet and established the monastery. He is still at the monastery with his 34th incarnation. Because of this, Thupten Chöling has been able to maintain its ancient customs with relatively little interference from the outside world. Visiting the Gompa is a great way to learn more about the history, religion, and culture of the area. In addition, there is a meditation cave where many monks go to meditate because it is thought that doing so will lead to enlightenment. Unfortunately, there are no overnight accommodations at the Thuptenchholing monastery, so we'll have to make our way back to Junbesi.

The trek route is rugged and steep in many sections. There are many uphill and downhill walking involved. For stability, we highly recommend using trekking poles during Pikey Peak trekking.

Approximately you will cover 75 to 85 kilometers during the Pikey Peak trek. Every day, 6 hours of trekking is required.
