Canadian flag hoisted high above the clouds, celebrating adventure, camaraderie, and the spirit of giving amidst the unparalleled beauty of the Everest region. That was the breathtaking reality for a group of 14 Canadian adventurers, 13 women and one man, who recently took on the Pikey Peak trek in Nepal with Moon Himalaya Adventure.

This was no ordinary hike. It was a journey filled with connection, culture, purpose and a shared sense of wonder.

From City Streets to Mountain Trails

Their adventure began in Kathmandu, the colorful and chaotic capital of Nepal. They visited to the iconic Swoyambhunath Stupa, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Perched atop a hill, this ancient stupa offers not only spiritual significance but also breathtaking panoramic views of Kathmandu City as the sun begins to set. Thay observed the blend of Hindu and Buddhist symbolism, the colorful prayer flags fluttering in the breeze, and the playful monkeys that inhabit the temple complex. Then, they headed to Patan Durbar Square where they saw unique architecture of palace crafted with wood, courtyards, and temples, reflecting the city's rich history and architecture. After taking in its vibrant culture and centuries-old heritage, the team hit the road for a ten-hour drive to Phaplu, the starting point of their trek.

The further they got from the city, the more peaceful the world became. They were embraced by the serene beauty of Nepal's countryside.Rolling green hills, stone villages and smiling locals set the tone for what lay ahead. It wasn’t just a trek anymore, it was a cultural immersion.

Walking Through Stories

As they hiked deeper into the Himalayas, the trail wound through Tamang and Sherpa villages. These weren’t just pit stops. They were windows into mountain life where people still live simply, closely tied to nature and tradition.

A Sacred Pause at Thupten Choeling Monastery

One of the most meaningful moments came at Thupten Choeling Monastery, perched high on a hill and radiating peace. Inside, prayer flags danced in the wind, monks chanted softly and intricate murals whispered spiritual stories.

The group was especially fortunate to receive blessings from His Holiness Trulsik Rinpoche, an experience many described as “once in a lifetime”. The visit to monastery was pure spiritual experience with full of emotions and positivity. It was a powerful reminder of the deep spirituality embedded in every step of the Himalayan journey.

Giving Back Along the Way

This trip wasn’t just about trekking. The group came with a a noble purpose. With a deep sense of compassion and a desire to make a tangible difference, they dedicated a part of their journey to supporting the education of young children. They visited three local schools: Shree Gorakhani, Shree Janachetana and Shree Sishakhola. There, they distributed backpacks, school supplies, sports materials and engaging playing materials. The smiles on the children’s faces were pure joy.

In a place where resources are limited, these simple gifts meant the world. More than anything, they created a bond, one of kindness, compassion and shared humanity.

The Summit: Sunrise and a Maple Leaf Moment

Reaching the summit of Pikey Peak was no easy feat, but it was worth every step. As they climbed the final stretch before dawn, anticipation filled the cold mountain air.

And then it happened.

The first golden rays of sunrise lit the horizon, and the Himalayan giants including Everest came to life. The group stood in awe as seven of the world’s tallest mountains formed a panoramic masterpiece.

More Than a Trek, A Life-Changing Experience

For each member of the group, this journey wasn’t just about reaching the top. It was about opening their hearts to a new culture, stepping far outside their comfort zones and discovering what really matters. This incredible feat serves as an inspiration to all, reminding us of the power of human endeavor and the beauty that awaits those who dare to step outside their comfort zones.
