Mt. Kailash and Mansarovar lake is very important pilgrimage site not only for Hindu but also for Buddhists, Jains and Bon followers. Mt. Kailash stands 6638 m high and till date no one has climbed it. Circumambulating the Mt. Kailash is also known as yatra, kora or parikrama. The kora around the Mt. Kailash begins from Darchen and ends in Darchen. The total distance is approximately 52 KM and usually takes 3 days to complete the kora around Mt. Kailash. Yam Dwar is the starting point of the kora and also called as the gateway to the Mt. kailash. You can see Dirapuk monastery located near the north face of Mt. Kailash and Zutulpuk monastery also known as meditation cave located near the end of the Kora. The highest point during the kora is Dolma La Pass which is situated at an elevation of 5636m, where you can see many prayer flags and stunning panoramic views. It is believed that circumambulating the Mt. Kailash erases the sins of a lifetime.
Mansarovar lake is considered the abode of Lord Brahma. The circumambulation of Mansarovar lake is about 88KM and can be done by walking or driving. In the early morning, we will do puja rituals in the holy lake, Mansarovar. It is believed that taking a dip in the Mansarovar lake, it purifies the soul.
The kora is physically challenging as it involves the walking in the high altitude and rough terrain. It is strictly recommended to acclimatize before embarking the journey. You can also hire a horse to do the kora around Mt. Kailash. The Mansarovar Kailash round trip is unique blend of adventure, natural beauty, devotion and cultural immersion. To complete the kora successfully, the best time is from May to September when the weather is mild. You will require permits and valid visa to embark on Mansarovar Kailash Round trip.
